De-Risking Migrations with Expertise and Experience Means Staff can focus on up-time, not cage nuts.
Hidden behind technical and financial issues surrounding migration is a simple question – Can my team do this alone?
The prospect of an upcoming migration is often approached with uncertainty by most IT managers and how to deploy to achieve a seamless outcome. There is a simple reason: they haven’t done it often and it isn’t their team’s core expertise. IT departments are there to maintain operational footprint of the production and recovery IT assets, not consciously disrupt them except by simulating DR exercises. But many managers don’t know who else to call on to help in the process.
It was to address that specific requirement that Prosedium Consulting was born. We built a company based on building knowledge, people and procedures around device migrations to diminish the inherent risks, minimise downtime and maximise the chance for a successful outcome.
There are two sides to any migration: physical and logical (and with the advent of the cloud and virtualisation, often many more sides). All of these involve the inherent risk of post migration availability of network, applications and data. As such, impeccable planning and execution are essential to de-risk the process.
As in a DR exercise, this is no time for free-lancing or learning on the job. It is rather a process leveraging staff knowledge and outside expertise to know what will happen and how best to ensure success. Equally, there is likely no activity of the average IT team that is more complex and intense, often having run-times of 24-48 hours.
Prosedium lives in this world and we know people are the most important asset in any migration.
It behooves us that any IT manager would expect their staff, whose primary responsibility is for the on-going availability of the operational IT footprint, to work every aspect of a migration including the uninstall and reinstall of operation. And, if outage windows are a critical consideration, it is even worse to expect top performance from people working non-stop from start to finish, including getting by a keyboard again to re-establish operations.
Prosedium lets IT personnel do what they do best, and we bring our tools to the table with trained and experienced technicians dedicated to the nuts, bolts and cables of a migration. Moreover, our experience in developing move plans ensures all aspects are considered, addressed, and executed. We bring the most efficient approach is to lever staff capabilities by supporting their understanding of the migration process, leading the key planning steps of a migration, and then immediately stepping in to re-establish operational footprint as quickly as possible.
In doing so, we support the objective of migrating devices and making sure the environment works the way its supposed when it is re-established and let IT teams do what they are ultimately supposed to.
